General Installation & Drop FAQ

A drop is a line that runs from RS Fiber’s pedestal to your home to receive service. Sometimes they are aerial but usually, they are buried underground. A temporary drop usually needs to be installed first while the permanent one waits to get buried.

Sometimes we run a temporary line during installs and repairs. This is called a temporary drop. Our burial crew will be back at a later date to bury the permanent drop and remove the temporary one.

Your location will be put on the drop burial list and will be on the top of the list for our drop burial crew to bury during the start of the burial session.

-Burial sessions usually start in spring but it depends on when the ground is thawed enough to dig.

Average burial timeline is 4–6 weeks.

-Weather and the number of drops in the list effect timeline of burial. Burial sessions usually start in spring but it depends on when the ground is thawed enough to dig.

We work with local utility companies to identify water, gas, and electric lines that are already in your yard. They mark them with painted lines and flags to help our burial crew determine where they’ll bury the line.

Utility locate flags and markings are good for 10–14 business days. If burial has not been completed in that time frame, then that area will need to be re-marked.

No. You would only need to be home if you have locked gates or fences that would block the technicians from access.
